About the Role
Qatar Airways is seeking a Lead Technical Architect specializing in Security and Non-Functional Requirements (NFR) to join the IT - Technology Services team in Doha. This role involves overseeing the strategic framework for secure, reliable application connectivity across the enterprise. The chosen candidate will lead efforts to safeguard organizational data and applications by enforcing stringent security and compliance standards. They will also establish and maintain best practices for application integration and ensure adherence to NFRs throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the organization’s roadmap and promote best practices among application teams to enhance the overall security posture of Qatar Airways applications.
- Design and ensure secure, dependable application deployment and connectivity architecture that protects data and aligns with Qatar Airways policies.
- Manage security implementation of mobility solutions across personal and MDM devices adhering to industry standards consistently enterprise-wide.
- Verify that east-west application traffic complies with encryption and data protection policies established by Qatar Airways.
- Develop and manage a cost-efficient organizational strategy for security certificate maintenance and administration across multiple layers including applications and servers.
- Lead thorough troubleshooting of complex production issues related to networks, proxies, firewalls, and security incidents.
- Oversee the management and security of secrets stored within application servers.
- Optimize proposed solutions balancing cost effectiveness and operational demands.
- Collaborate with the cyber governance team to continuously update security guidelines ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Establish an enterprise-wide NFR framework encompassing availability, reliability, performance, scalability, observability, maintainability, auditing, and security.
- Define and monitor measurable KPIs, SLAs, and SLOs on critical platforms like web, mobile, API, data, and AI workloads.
- Design reference architectures and NFR patterns suitable for multi-cloud, hybrid, and distributed environments including Azure, GCP, Oracle, Adobe, and on-premises systems.
- Architect observability solutions utilizing tools such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, and Azure Monitor.
- Plan and execute load and stress testing strategies using tools like k6, JMeter, or Galing, ensuring performance validation.
- Integrate data privacy and encryption frameworks including BYOK, Fortanix, Azure Key Vault, and Transparent Data Encryption into NFR design principles.
- Ensure compliance and audit readiness concerning data residency, logging, and access controls.
- Validate secure integration of APIs, event streams, and third-party connectors including APIM, Apigee, MuleSoft, Solace, and IBMMQ.
- Work with testing and QA teams to define performance acceptance criteria.
- Develop performance baselines and capacity planning models for mission-critical systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or honors in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Sciences, or an equivalent field.
- Over 10 years of experience in architecture or system design roles, including at least 3 years focused on application security and non-functional requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architectures, and cloud computing.
- Extensive experience with performance engineering, scalability, and reliability.
- Hands-on expertise with monitoring, logging, and tracing technologies such as Dynatrace, ELK stack, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.
- Familiarity with API gateway solutions, content delivery networks, and web application firewalls including Akamai, Azure Front Door, and F5.
- Solid understanding of security protocols and standards, including OAuth, SAML, TLS, and encryption methods for data at rest and in transit.
- Practical experience identifying system and application bottlenecks using advanced APM tools like Dynatrace, ELK APM, and AppDynamics, and communicating these issues effectively to application teams.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Professional certifications such as TOGAF and cloud architecture expertise (Azure, Google) are highly desirable.
- Prior exposure to enterprise sectors, preferably aviation.
