Overview

Join as a Lead Roads Engineer within a team dedicated to enhancing New Zealand's transport infrastructure—from major highways to urban corridors. This role involves leading multidisciplinary design projects that influence how people move daily across the country, providing technical direction on significant transport initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the geometric road and civil design processes from feasibility and concept stages through detailed design and construction support.
  • Offer technical guidance, mentorship, and design leadership to engineering teams and designers.
  • Coordinate with a variety of specialists including transport planning, drainage, utilities, structures, pavements, rail, geotechnical, and environmental disciplines.
  • Drive Safety in Design, constructability considerations, and risk management throughout projects.
  • Manage project scope, timeline, commercial outcomes, and quality of design deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with key stakeholders such as NZTA, Auckland Transport, local authorities, and others.
  • Shape and improve the road engineering practice by advancing technical leadership, innovation, and ongoing enhancements.

Candidate Profile

  • Experienced in managing multidisciplinary civil or transport infrastructure projects within consulting environments.
  • Strong proficiency in geometric road design, conducting design reviews, and leading technical teams.
  • Familiarity with standards set by NZTA, Auckland Transport or local government bodies.
  • Capability to mentor and lead teams while delivering integrated, practical, and buildable solutions.
  • Hands-on experience or leadership with Civil 3D, OpenRoads, or 12d software tools.
  • Thorough understanding of Safety in Design principles, constructability, commercial project delivery, and risk management.
  • Chartered civil engineer or actively pursuing Chartered status with an appropriate Civil Engineering credential.
