The company is expanding its use of advanced analytics, predictive modelling, and data-led products to extract more value from a broad and mature data environment. Role Overview
The Lead Data Scientist will be responsible for shaping predictive models and analytical products within a tightly regulated setting. You will partner with senior leadership and own the end-to-end data science process, including discovery, feature creation, model build, deployment, monitoring, and governance. The role suits someone who enjoys tackling complex business questions, developing production-ready models, and delivering measurable commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement predictive models that inform commercial, risk, and strategic decisions.
- Prepare and manage modelling datasets from large structured data sources.
- Drive exploratory analysis, feature development, model selection, validation, and ongoing performance tracking.
- Develop forecasting, simulation, and scenario analysis to support planning activities.
- Make sure models are reliable, interpretable, and aligned with governance and regulatory standards.
- Build repeatable, version-managed data science processes and working practices.
- Work with data engineering teams and business partners to deliver scalable data products.
- Assess and refine machine learning solutions, balancing accuracy, transparency, and business value.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate brings substantial experience in predictive modelling within financial services or a similarly regulated sector. Strong Python and SQL capability is essential, along with experience using cloud-based data platforms such as Snowflake. You should also be confident in exploratory analysis, feature engineering, model testing, and the delivery of production-grade machine learning solutions. A solid understanding of governance, auditability, and regulatory expectations is important, as is the ability to communicate complex analytical ideas clearly to senior stakeholders.
Additional Skills and Experience
- Advanced Python skills, including Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
- Strong SQL knowledge.
- Experience with Snowflake or a comparable cloud data platform.
- Experience in model monitoring and production deployment.
- Working knowledge of Git and version-controlled development.
- Exposure to credit risk, forecasting, scorecards, probability models, or similar analytical methods is a strong advantage.
