Role Overview

The full-time HGV Technician position based on-site in Tipton involves the maintenance and repair of commercial vehicles. Key tasks include identifying mechanical and electrical faults, performing scheduled servicing, and executing repairs on trucks, buses, and trailers strictly following manufacturer guidelines and safety standards. The technician will employ diagnostic equipment and technical documentation, generate detailed job cards and service reports, and maintain clear communication with service advisors and team members about work progress and additional needs. The role also demands conducting pre-MOT inspections, road testing vehicles when required, keeping the workshop organized and safe, and supporting 24-hour service functions as necessary.

Candidate Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair, with experience on HGVs, buses, and trailers from multiple manufacturers.
  • Experienced in mechanical and electrical diagnostics using modern diagnostic tools, technical literature, and manufacturer systems.
  • Knowledgeable about safety protocols and compliance regulations including DVSA standards, MOT preparations, and health and safety practices in workshops.
  • Skilled in documenting technical work and communicating effectively, including accurate job card completion and clear updates to colleagues and clients.
  • Holds relevant certifications such as NVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair; possessing a valid driver's license is required, with an HGV license considered advantageous.
  • Demonstrates reliability, meticulous attention to detail, adaptability to shift work or flexible scheduling, and enthusiasm for continuous technical education and career growth.
  • Experience servicing brands such as MAN, ISUZU, Neoplan, Iveco, and mixed fleets including DAF, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Scania, and Volvo is highly valued.
