The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) is a Tribal healthcare provider serving approximately 30,000 residents across rural southwest Alaska, including small villages with populations from under 10 to over 1,000. Position Summary

The Healthcare Epidemiologist role involves assessing and analyzing healthcare services, policies, and delivery models to understand their impacts on health outcomes. The professional will closely collaborate with the Outpatient Care and Village Health departments to generate scientifically sound data and reports that identify gaps in services, recommend improvements, and monitor progress toward lessening the local burden of disease and injury.

This position requires mastery of public health, healthcare, and epidemiology principles along with strict adherence to organizational rules related to confidentiality and data security, especially in handling sensitive client and protected health information. The role entails partnering with clinical, public health teams, and various stakeholders to evaluate programs, highlight best practices, glean lessons learned, and assist in refining policies and initiatives.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Director of Public Health or leadership of relevant departments.

Qualifications & Skills

Doctoral degree or higher in epidemiology, public health, or healthcare administration from an accredited institution; substitutions for experience may be approved by the Director.
Proven experience designing, analyzing, and conducting investigations to identify health outcome determinants, utilizing biostatistics for data evaluation.
Advanced skills in using computers and mobile technology for data analysis, including familiarity with data analytical software.
Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and interpersonal capabilities, with sensitivity to diverse cultural and social conditions.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to exercise sound judgment.
Experience in non-judgmental interactions and cultural sensitivity is essential.
Ability to manage schedules, plan projects, organize resources, and generate survey reports independently.
Familiarity with RAVEN and PowerChart systems is advantageous; proficiency in Yupik or Athbascan languages is desirable.
Understanding of disease transmission basics, public health data ethics, risk communication, and local data collection protocols.
Leadership or collaborative experience in healthcare, community outreach, or public health initiatives is preferred.

Additional Information

This is a full-time remote position based in Alaska, expected to work 40 hours per week. The hourly rate is set at $65.32. The role is classified as exempt under FLSA guidelines.
