About the Role

Airswift, a global manpower provider specializing in Energy, Infrastructure, and IT sectors, is partnering with a leading Oil & Gas operator to recruit a Head of Project Engineering for Utilities on a long-term contract basis. The position is based onshore in Doha (HQ/Qatar site) with a start date as soon as possible, typically requiring up to one month notice.

Working Conditions

The role requires working six days per week, 8-10 hours daily or as dictated by project demands.

Role Summary and Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-disciplinary operations within the Project Management Team, overseeing the Utilities & Infrastructure Delivery segments, and collaborate closely with the EPC contractor to ensure engineering, procurement, and construction tasks adhere to schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate project management efforts such as schedule evaluation, risk monitoring, fabrication progress, mechanical installation, and SDR tracking, incorporating interventions where necessary to achieve project goals.
  • Support engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams by clarifying plans and fostering teamwork between CONTRACTOR and Project Management Team to hit critical milestones.
  • Monitor project execution metrics via KPIs, identify deviations for early corrective steps, and communicate progress through weekly and monthly delivery reports.
  • Understand cross-disciplinary dependencies to make informed project management decisions with multi-discipline implications and apply risk management techniques to assist judgment calls.
  • Promote and uphold the project’s safety program (Ihtimam), ensuring all activities are performed safely and efficiently, supporting personnel welfare, asset protection, and environmental safety. Lead safety culture implementation and participate actively in site safety initiatives.
  • Manage design change processes, documenting, justifying, and assessing risks linked to modifications.
  • Assess equipment testing, perform site and vendor visits, oversee EPC contractor performance, and track adherence to project milestones, schedules, safety standards, and quality controls to guarantee safe and timely execution.
  • Provide leadership to resolve complex multi-disciplinary issues and advance project progress by achieving alignment among stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • At least 10 years' engineering experience, including 6 years in the Oil & Gas sector with substantial involvement in major project engineering management, preferably in LNG projects.
  • A minimum of 2 years supervisory or oversight experience involving contractor, subcontractor, service, or vendor teams.
  • Proven leadership in engineering, ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, and a solid understanding of design safety in engineering.
  • Competence in risk assessment methodologies for decision making.
  • Familiarity with LNG facility operations and design of large process units.
  • Experience collaborating with major EPC contractors within lump sum contract frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, capable of engaging stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Cultural sensitivity and aptitude for working with diverse teams.
  • Field engineering experience is a plus.
