About the Role
Join Children's Aid Limited as a Guidance Officer at Melrose Home, a 24-hour residential care facility dedicated to supporting children and youth aged 7 to 21 years. This role entails working on a rotating shift basis throughout the week, including weekends and public holidays, providing crucial supervision and support to residents to help them grow, heal, and achieve brighter futures.
Work Schedule
- Five-day workweek with two rotational rest days.
- Shift options include AM (7:00am–4:00pm) and predominantly PM (1:00pm–10:00pm).
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily supervision and caring responsibilities for approximately 10 to 15 residents.
- Assist Unit Leaders in designing and delivering programs covering biopsychosocial, educational, and life-skills development to empower independent living.
- Foster appropriate social behaviours in residents while respecting personal rights through consistent behaviour management practices.
- Support adherence to Home routines and behavioural expectations promoting respectful interactions.
- Build trustful relationships encouraging emotional and personal growth.
- Manage behavioural challenges professionally using trauma-informed approaches.
- Encourage and guide residents in personal development and motivation.
- Promote cleanliness and personal hygiene in the living environment.
- Attend to residents’ health and medical needs responsibly.
- Ensure safety and respond properly to emergencies and crises.
- Support academic progress and facilitate growth-oriented activities.
- Collaborate with caseworkers and multidisciplinary teams to implement integrated care plans and document resident progress.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum qualification of N/O Level or its equivalent.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Prior experience with children or youth is preferred but not required; passion for supporting this demographic is essential.
- Demonstrated adaptability, resilience, and eagerness for ongoing learning.
- Emotional maturity, patience, and ability to establish positive yet professional relationships.
