About the organization
The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is a fast-expanding nonprofit organization focused on research and analysis of financial and economic topics tied to energy markets, trends, and policy. Based in the United States, the organization has a globally distributed team of 70+ analysts and communications professionals working across 15 countries. Its output includes original research, ongoing analysis, press-related coverage, and other publications on its website.
Role overview
IEEFA is hiring a Global Human Resources Partner to support a wide range of people operations work across a remote, international workforce. This is a service-focused role that helps strengthen an inclusive and engaged global team while aligning HR practices with the organization’s culture. The position partners closely with the HR Director and contributes strategic input to support organizational effectiveness.
This is a remote full-time role, with preference for candidates based in Kenya. Applicants from other African time zones may also be considered, provided they can work flexibly to collaborate with global teams.
Key responsibilities
The HR Partner will own and coordinate a broad set of HR activities, including recruitment, training, compliance, employee and labor relations, and communication of policies and procedures. The role does not include direct people management, but it will function as a coach and advisor to other IEEFA team members.
Responsibilities
- Act as the main HR contact for Employer of Record matters and serve as the specialist liaison between IEEFA and the EOR provider.
- Provide guidance on personnel questions, policy interpretation, workplace concerns, and conflict resolution, escalating sensitive or complex matters to the HR Director when needed.
- Work with the HR Director to shape and roll out HR strategy and related initiatives.
- Review workforce data and trends to support informed decisions and ongoing improvement.
- Manage complex hiring processes and create recruitment approaches that deliver a high-quality experience for candidates and hiring managers.
- Draft formal HR documents, including employment contracts.
- Support orientation sessions and help design and deliver HR training programs.
- Keep employee records current and accurate in IEEFA’s systems and databases.
- Carry out additional related duties as assigned.

The role also calls for strong relationship-building and consultative skills, the confidence to influence others diplomatically, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels and backgrounds. Success in this position requires comfort working independently and collaboratively, managing a busy workload, staying detail-oriented, and handling multiple priorities at once. Strong written and verbal communication, program coordination skills, fluency in English, and proficiency with MS Office are also important. A commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth is expected.
Required qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources or a closely related discipline.
- At least 7 years of progressive HR experience, including a minimum of 2 years working with leaders and staff.
- Experience supporting a geographically distributed workforce.
- Alignment with IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the shift toward a diverse, sustainable, and profitable economy.
Preferred qualifications
- Prior work experience in an NGO or nonprofit environment.
- Experience using AI tools for HR analytics.
- HRCI, SHRM, or an equivalent professional HR certification.
Compensation and benefits
The compensation range is USD 78,924 to 95,244 annually, or the local equivalent adjusted for currency and cost of living. Benefits and holiday entitlements depend on the employee’s country of residence. Team members receive a one-time home office setup allowance, a monthly cell phone and internet stipend, optional support for coworking space costs, at least 20 vacation days, and 10 sick leave days.
Work schedule
This is a remote, full-time role. Because the job involves regular collaboration across time zones, the schedule will include some early-morning or late-evening work, with time off provided elsewhere in the schedule to balance those hours.
Travel
Travel is not expected to be a regular part of this position. However, global team members may attend IEEFA’s conference and an international team retreat when these events are scheduled.
Physical requirements and work environment
The role requires extended periods of computer-based work. This may involve repetitive movements and can lead to eye strain, neck strain, or back strain.
