Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Portering Services Department at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, also covering Community sites. The role involves responding promptly to requests for transporting patients and goods, ensuring timely and appropriate service delivery. This work includes the handling, lifting, and moving of heavy loads with mechanical aids where required, such as pallet trucks, tugs, and stairwell climbers.
The Health Board provides excellent employment conditions, including generous paid holiday entitlement, extra pay for weekend shifts, and membership in the Superannuation Pension Scheme. This is a permanent position offering full-time employment of 37.5 hours per week, working five days across a rota that includes nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
Main Responsibilities
- Support all hospital areas by responding to patient and goods movement requests efficiently.
- Assist during emergencies as needed and manage the collection and delivery of samples, medicines, meal trolleys, linen, goods, and mail promptly.
- Adapt flexibly to unpredictable daily working conditions and increased workloads due to external factors such as weather and patient volume.
- Collaborate with team members to maintain smooth portering services.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- Good standard of secondary education is essential.
- NVQ level 2 in customer service is desirable but not mandatory.
- Previous experience in a similar portering role and knowledge of hospital operations are advantageous.
- Applicants must be available to work weekends and bank holidays.
- Ability to travel within the geographical area promptly is required.
- Capability to handle distressing situations is necessary.
- Strong communication skills and teamwork ability are essential.
- Welsh language proficiency is preferred but not compulsory; applications in Welsh or English will be equally considered.
