Full-Time Meat Cutter

About the Role

Metro is seeking a dedicated and skilled Meat Cutter to join their team at the Kingston, Ontario location. This permanent full-time role is part of a unionized bargaining unit where the starting wage is $17.60 per hour, with the possibility of a higher wage based on relevant experience and skills, all within the collective agreement wage scale.

The position involves working various shifts including days, evenings, and weekends at 310 Barrie St, Kingston, ON.

Key Responsibilities

• Precisely cut, trim, and prepare a diverse range of meat products following company standards.
• Portion and package meat products suitably for retail display and customer orders.
• Maintain visually appealing, fully stocked, and well-organized meat displays.
• Use first-in-first-out (FIFO) practices to rotate merchandise and preserve product freshness while minimizing waste.
• Inspect and remove any meat products that do not meet quality criteria.
• Deliver friendly and informative customer service, assisting with recommendations and cooking advice.
• Operate cutting tools and equipment safely and keep them well-maintained.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health & safety policies rigorously.
• Constantly monitor storage environments including coolers and display cases to ensure optimal conditions.
• Help receive deliveries and properly organize stock in coolers and preparation areas.
• Ensure all products are accurately priced, labeled, and correctly signed.
• Keep the work environment, equipment, and tools clean and orderly.
• Support promotional campaigns and assist other departments as needed.
• Complete additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Prior hands-on experience as a meat cutter is essential.
• Knowledge of meat products and merchandising is advantageous.
• Strong customer service orientation with effective communication skills.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights and weekends.
