Program Overview

The Human Rights master's program, launched in 2020, is a two-year course combining law with various social and human sciences. It strives to build high-level expertise in human rights knowledge, international human rights law, and to develop Arab specialists in this field. Graduates gain analytical skills to engage in research and participate in intellectual debates concerning human rights. The program also provides a historical and political context to address challenges specific to the Arab region, especially Gulf countries, in human rights, alongside developing critical theories, interpretations, and appropriate policies.

Job Purpose and Summary

The Doha Institute seeks to appoint a full-time faculty member to the Human Rights master's program at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor, with contracts starting August 2027. Candidates must have a solid academic background in human rights, thorough knowledge of the Arab region's human rights context, with a strong understanding of legal systems, human rights conditions, and political and social challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver graduate-level teaching, especially in international humanitarian law and international criminal law.
• Supervise master's and doctoral students and actively engage in the academic environment of the institute.
• Publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals or reputable academic presses relevant to the specialization.
• Carry out administrative duties and contribute to the program, school, institute, and community services.
• Participate in committee work at program, school, and institute levels.

Qualifications and Experience

• Doctorate in human rights, law, or political science.
• Proven research and publication record in peer-reviewed international journals appropriate for the rank.
• Competency and experience in teaching graduate students.
• Proficiency in Arabic language.
• Ability to secure external funding and research support.
• Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaborative research within the program or institute.
• Capability to establish an international reputation for research excellence.
