Job Overview & Responsibilities
The Facility Technician ensures all transit service stops remain clean, well-maintained, orderly, and safe. Key duties include:
- Sweeping and cleaning transit stop floors
- Collecting and disposing of trash and recyclables
- Refilling and servicing transit stop supplies
- Cleaning seats, fixtures, windows, and glass partitions
- Preparing cleaning solutions by mixing detergents or acids according to guidelines
- Documenting and reporting maintenance issues
- Performing minor repairs as necessary
- Following safety procedures when using chemicals and equipment
- Snow removal and application of melting chemicals around stops
- Requesting supplies and equipment needed for upkeep
- Maintaining a safe workspace to prevent injuries
- Completing accurate shift reports and records
- Demonstrating professionalism, cooperation, punctuality, and adherence to company appearance standards
- Participating in required training and safety meetings
- Performing additional assigned duties as required
Work Environment
The role involves extended standing and walking, repetitive hand and arm movements, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and handling cleaning tools. The technician frequently works outdoors, exposed to varying weather conditions, fumes, chemicals, and vibrations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Ontario G-class or higher driver’s license
- Minimum two years of driving experience with a good driving record
- Preferably two years of relevant maintenance or related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Skills and Knowledge
- Familiarity with standard cleaning methods, chemicals, and equipment
- Understanding of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- Knowledge of local transit service area
- Ability to interpret chemical labels and usage instructions
- Safe operation of various cleaning equipment
- Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong verbal communication and listening skills
- Attention to detail and ability to plan and schedule work effectively

Compensation
Wage is $24.22 per hour plus a $1.00 hourly shift premium where applicable.
