About the Role

Queensland Hydraulics is seeking a skilled Hydraulic/Mechanical Fitter for a primarily workshop-based role with significant onsite duties. Approximately 40% of the work is in the workshop involving assembly, repair, and testing of hydraulic cylinders and power units, while 60% involves onsite pipework installation. The position entails responsibilities such as disassembling, repairing, assembling, and testing hydraulic components, as well as onsite installations including pipe bending and pressure testing. Accommodation and meals are provided for site work.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, reassemble, and test hydraulic cylinders.
  • Assemble hydraulic power units including piping and component fitting.
  • Perform onsite hydraulic pipework installations, including bending pipes sized 1/2" to 1 1/2".
  • Conduct pressure testing, flushing, and commissioning (both dry and wet) of systems.
  • Perform welding duties as needed (TIG & MIG welding skills preferred).
  • Work according to Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and Job Safety and Environmental Analysis Sheets (JSEAS).
  • Use stainless steel materials (grades 304 and 316) for installations.
  • Mentor and guide apprentices in correct fitting and workshop practices.

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified fitter with at least 5 years of trade experience.
  • Experience with hydraulics is advantageous; training can be provided for the right candidate.
  • Competency in TIG and MIG welding is desirable.
  • Ability to interpret production drawings and deliver quality work within specified tolerances.
  • Reliable, diligent, with strong attention to detail and a positive, proactive attitude.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Salary range between approximately AUD 100,000 to 140,000 including superannuation, depending on site work.
  • Workshop hourly rates starting from AUD 45, depending on experience.
  • Site hourly rates up to AUD 65 depending on job specifics, location, and covering travel, meals, and accommodation.
