About the Role

Join our team in Hamilton, ON, where you will play a critical part in ensuring successful project execution by preparing comprehensive cost estimates. Working directly with the Regional Director, your primary focus will lie in estimating and tendering for all aspects of construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, using specialized estimating software to meet strict submission deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and analyze tender drawings and specifications with precision.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs to ensure every project element is accounted for.
  • Prepare complete and consistent cost breakdowns for labor, equipment, and material, while sourcing and negotiating with subcontractors as needed.
  • Conduct thorough tender closings, including reviewing submissions and analyzing sub-proposals to guarantee accuracy.
  • Manage the preparation of necessary documentation such as bid bonds and insurance requests.
  • Maintain organized records and communications for active tenders, and handle follow-ups with clients for proposals.
  • Analyze costing when changes in project scope or claims arise, and support project management with ongoing cost evaluation.
  • Provide technical and scheduling support for field teams, ensuring a smooth project handoff.
  • Collaborate across departments to uphold estimating procedures, mentor junior staff, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

What You Bring

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a diploma in Civil Technology is desirable.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the construction sector, particularly in estimating roles.
  • Hands-on experience using commercial bidding platforms, ideally InEight Estimate.
  • Strong ability to interpret and work from construction documents and contracts (MTO, municipal, OPSS, CDED).
  • Proficiency in estimating software and a solid command of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Critical thinking skills and an outcome-oriented mindset to drive process improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and mentorship.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range: $75,000 to $125,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
