Role overview
The E&S Engineer will oversee the rollout, tracking, and documentation of Environmental and Social (E&S) obligations at project locations. The role focuses on meeting legal requirements, client expectations, and globally recognized frameworks such as IFC, World Bank, and ISO 14001.
Environmental management
- Put the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and all project-specific E&S controls into practice.
- Maintain compliance with applicable environmental legislation, client E&S standards, and required statutory approvals.
- Keep watch over key environmental areas including waste handling, air/noise/water quality, management of hazardous substances, and spill prevention and response.
- Carry out routine site walks and audits, then ensure observations are closed out promptly.
- Keep environmental permits, logs, records, and compliance reports current and organized.
Social and sustainability matters
- Execute Social Management Plans (SMP) according to project and client requirements.
- Review labor camp conditions, employee welfare, and community-related concerns.
- Manage grievances and assist with the Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM).
- Support adherence to labor regulations, ethical conduct, and human rights expectations.
- Contribute to stakeholder engagement activities whenever needed.
Reporting and documentation
- Compile and submit E&S updates on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Assist with internal audits, external audits, client visits, and third-party evaluations.
- Monitor E&S performance indicators and help with sustainability-related reporting.
Training and awareness
- Deliver E&S induction sessions and toolbox talks for employees and subcontractor teams.
- Encourage site-level environmental awareness and sustainable work practices.
Coordination and liaison
- Work closely with construction teams, subcontractors, and consultants on E&S issues.
- Interface with clients, regulators, and auditors on compliance-related matters.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a closely related field is required.
- Applicants should have 6 to 10 years of relevant experience in E&S, environmental, or sustainability roles, ideally within infrastructure, EPC, or construction environments.
- Preferred certifications include NEBOSH Environmental, IEMA, and ISO 14001 Lead Auditor.
- Exposure to IFC or World Bank E&S requirements will be considered an advantage.
