Engineer / Senior Engineer - Supplier Quality Assurance

About the role

Brakes India is looking for an Engineer or Senior Engineer in Supplier Quality Assurance at its Padi, Chennai location within the Heavy Vehicle business unit. The position is focused on managing machining and cold forging suppliers, especially for part development and PPAP-related work.

Core responsibilities

• Coordinate supplier activities through PPAP and SCAR processes so that child-part quality across all units stays within target levels.
• Review, certify, and route PPAP documentation for approval so monthly submission goals are met.
• Drive corrective actions at supplier end to eliminate quality issues during the safe launch phase.
• Lead manufacturing feasibility reviews with cross-functional teams and suppliers to improve first-time-right sample approval.
• Provide technical support and training to suppliers to reduce defects and help suppliers improve to the required target level.
• Prepare and submit resourcing, retro PPAP, and change-management packages for approval to support alternate-source development, supplier-initiated changes, and Brakes India-initiated changes.
• Review child parts for DOL (Direct Online) and recommend them to units to help implement BPS (Brakes India Production System) across the supply chain.
• Validate corrective actions for SCARs and forward them for approval within the defined timelines.
• Work with suppliers on warranty-part investigation and root-cause analysis.
• Track supplier PPM trends, prepare supplier profile sheets, and conduct periodic high-PPM/SCAR reviews with supplier senior management to drive improvement.
• Prepare the annual audit plan, carry out supplier audits, compile reports, close audit observations, and recommend re-audits when needed.
• Identify process or system weaknesses from audit findings and work with suppliers to improve audit grades.
• Perform launch-readiness audits at selected suppliers and close open actions.
• Conduct supplier training sessions as per schedule.
• Carry out 6M analysis on closed complaints and update the part-family TGW database periodically.
• Coordinate horizontal deployment of corrective actions across part families, suppliers, and supplied part numbers.
• Support manufacturing plants during customer audits related to supplier-parts management.
• Coordinate internal and external system audits on supplier-parts management.
• Submit monthly MIS covering performance analysis against objectives and targets.
• Ensure revalidation reports for commodity parts such as friction and rubber are submitted as required.

Requirements

• 3 to 4 years of relevant experience in supplier quality or related manufacturing quality work.
• B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile, Production, or Electronics Engineering.
• Hands-on exposure to machining and cold forging suppliers, part development, and PPAP activities.
• Working knowledge of supplier quality tools and processes such as PPAP, SCAR, audit handling, PPM tracking, and corrective action closure.
• Ability to support supplier development, feasibility reviews, launch readiness, and change-management processes.
• Immediate joiners are preferred.
