About the Role
Scientific Lightning Solutions (SLS) is looking to hire an Electrical Engineer to join its technically advanced team in Lightning Ridge, New South Wales. The company pioneers in enhancing lightning operational resilience for critical assets across various sectors including aerospace, defense, power generation, and manufacturing. Key Contributions
- Analyze and measure actual lightning events applying innovative detection and monitoring technologies.
- Develop custom instrumentation and sophisticated data acquisition systems.
- Utilize AI and machine learning to enhance engineering data analysis and automate workflows.
- Evaluate lightning protection and grounding systems and investigate lightning-related failures.
- Convert complex physical measurements and scientific data into practical engineering solutions.
- Engage in research to push forward technology and knowledge in lightning resilience.
Primary Responsibilities
- Execute field inspections and electrical testing of lightning-protection and surge systems in critical environments.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot lightning detection and monitoring systems.
- Analyze electrical and electromagnetic data to assess system performances.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering reports and documentation.
- Support custom instrumentation lifecycle, from requirements through deployment.
- Create software tools and scripts for data processing and visualization.
- Apply AI and ML methods for anomaly detection, data interpretation, and decision support.
- Conduct lab and field testing and calibrations of sensors and instrumentation.
- Support development of new lightning monitoring tech and conduct applied research studies.
- Collaborate with engineers, customers, and partners ensuring technical quality and safety.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Must be U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to meet project security requirements.
- Ability to clear customer background checks and access secure facilities.
- Strong analytical approach and sound engineering judgement.
- Knowledge of electrical circuits, instrumentation, and data acquisition fundamentals.
- Proficiency in scientific programming languages like Python or MATLAB.
- Interest in AI, data analytics, or sophisticated automation techniques.
- Comfortable using electrical test equipment and field tools.
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects independently or in teams.
Physical and Field Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work sites following safety protocols.
- Capability to carry and operate equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Working outdoors in diverse environmental conditions.
- Compliance with safety and security policies on-site.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate studies or advanced coursework in relevant engineering or scientific fields.
- Hands-on experience with sensors, embedded systems, and scientific computing.
- Skillset including Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, SQL, Git, Linux, or cloud data platforms.
- Knowledge of AI, machine learning, signal processing, and predictive analytics.
- Familiarity with laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Exposure to electromagnetic compatibility, power systems, or atmospheric electricity.
- Technical writing and documentation experience.
- Interest in sectors like aerospace, nuclear energy, and advanced manufacturing.
