Role Overview
The Education Specialist plays a vital role in designing, contributing to, and managing academic research, exhibitions, public outreach initiatives, educational programs, and related publications, primarily targeting K-12 audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee innovative educational programs, school experiences, and curriculum tailored to K-12 student groups.
- Establish and nurture cooperative relationships with educators, schools, and academic districts.
- Ensure consistent and clear communication, coordination, and connectivity among stakeholders.
- Recruit, lead, train, and organize schedules for educational staff members.
Mandatory Conditions
- Successfully complete a Pre-employment Background Check.
- Fulfill any applicable Probationary Period.
- Maintain an active bank account for direct electronic payroll deposits.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must have Selective Service registration.
Qualification Standards
- Possess a degree with a major or significant coursework in education or a relevant subject field aligned with the role requirements.
- Or hold a combination of educational background and professional experience equivalent to major study in education or related fields.
- Demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-07 federal level, which includes developing and managing school programming within museums or cultural institutions focused on K-12 audiences.
- Alternatively, have completed two years of advanced graduate-level education toward a master's degree or possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a relevant discipline.
Additional Information
This position is part of a bargaining unit. Authorization for recruitment incentives may be possible, but if offered, will require a service agreement obligating continuous federal work for a specific period. Relocation assistance is not provided. Applications may be considered for similar roles across the institution’s various sites.
