Early Intervention Teacher

Role Overview

This fixed-term position (six months) is located in Whangārei, Te Tai Tokerau and involves working with the Ministry of Education's Learning Support team. The Early Intervention Teacher is tasked with providing expert educational support aligned with the Ministry’s practice framework He Pikorua, and the early childhood curriculum frameworks Te Whariki and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo.

Key Duties

• Deliver top-quality learning support following established Ministry guiding principles and early childhood curriculum goals.
• Enhance the skills and capacity of key supporters like parents, teachers, and families to aid children's learning.
• Collaborate with families to identify needs, co-develop intervention plans, and oversee their execution.
• Assist children through critical transitions, such as entering early childhood education and starting school.
• Participate as a cooperative member of trans-disciplinary teams addressing complex child needs.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a Bachelor of Teaching in Early Childhood and full teacher registration.
• Possesses or commits to obtaining a post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention within four years.
• Brings at least four years of teaching experience in New Zealand with a strong understanding of child development, learning challenges, and behaviour.
• Familiar with various needs and disabilities and their effects on family life and education within early childhood and home environments.
• Exhibits excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage learners, families, and educators across diverse settings.
• Has a comprehensive grasp of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga principles.
• Maintains a full driver’s licence and holds New Zealand citizenship, residency, or a valid work visa.
• Adheres to Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

• The salary range for this role is NZD 69,966 to 106,016 annually, complemented by KiwiSaver contributions, with appointment reflecting qualifications and experience.
