Digital Accessibility Tester

Role overview

GovTech Singapore is looking for a Digital Accessibility Tester to help make government digital services more usable and inclusive. The position focuses on assessing public-facing websites and digital products with the help of real assistive-technology experience, so that accessibility gaps can be identified and resolved for a wider range of users.

You will partner with designers, engineers, and product teams to surface barriers, explain their impact, and recommend practical fixes that support a more human-centered approach to accessibility.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed manual accessibility reviews of web-based platforms and assess them against Singapore’s Digital Service Standards.
• Apply first-hand experience with assistive technologies to uncover usability problems that automated checks may miss.
• Prepare well-organized audit reports that can be used by designers, developers, QA teams, product owners, and other non-technical stakeholders.
• Translate findings into clear, practical recommendations aligned to WCAG requirements and real user impact.
• Work with cross-functional stakeholders to explain accessibility issues, show barriers in context, and help drive implementation of corrections.
• Join review meetings, walkthroughs, and discussions with internal or external stakeholders to keep accessibility goals aligned.
• Help refine testing methods, audit processes, and internal accessibility standards.
• Keep up with changing accessibility practices, assistive technologies, and WCAG guidance.
• Promote a culture of inclusion by advocating for accessibility from both technical and user-experience perspectives.

What the team is looking for

• Personal experience as a person with a vision disability, along with strong screen-reader proficiency.
• Good analytical ability and the capacity to turn audit observations into concise, structured documentation.
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to explain user impact, technical details, and recommended remediation steps clearly.

Preferred background

• IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification or a comparable credential.
• Experience in UX research or usability testing, especially with participants who have disabilities.
• Exposure to a range of assistive technologies and devices.
• Working knowledge of basic HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ARIA to understand code-level accessibility issues.
• At least 2 years of practical experience carrying out manual accessibility audits in real-world settings.
• Solid understanding of Digital Service Standards or WCAG 2.1 A/AA requirements and the ability to assess conformance confidently.
• Familiarity with accessibility testing approaches and tools, including both automated and manual methods.
• Ability to explain complex accessibility findings in a way that is useful to both technical and non-technical audiences.
