Faculty of Science Overview
- The Faculty offers various undergraduate and graduate programs including Master of Science in Information Technology, Bachelor of Environmental Health (After Degree) — one of only six programs in Canada for Environmental Health Officers/Public Health Inspectors.
- 3- and 4-year degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Information Technology (4-year only), and Mathematics.

- Accredited 4-year Chemistry program certified by the Canadian Society for Chemistry.

Position Summary
The Dean of Science provides visionary leadership over academic, research, and administrative operations within the Faculty. This role ensures that programs remain innovative, sustainable, and aligned with the University's mission while driving excellence in teaching, research, and service.
Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President Academic, the Dean will lead policy implementation to fulfill the university's strategic objectives, promote high standards across teaching, research, and community engagement, and foster a collaborative, diverse environment among faculty, staff, and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance and oversee academic programs, research activities, and administration.
- Encourage innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence within the faculty and student body.
- Support and advance faculty research aligned with industry and community needs.
- Establish and nurture partnerships with government, industry, academic institutions, and community groups.
- Serve as an advocate for the Faculty and University to enhance CUE’s profile and mission.
- Engage as a senior management team member by contributing leadership, problem-solving, and decisions.
- Lead and promote an inclusive, diverse, and evolving environment that fosters teamwork and participation.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in a relevant scientific field with a robust history of teaching, research, and academic leadership at associate or full professor level.
- At least five years of progressive experience managing science academic programs, including their development and review.
- Proven accomplishments in scholarship, research, mentoring, and administrative roles.
- Demonstrated success in forming effective partnerships with government and industry stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal skills, and dedication to collaboration and inclusion.
- Strategic planning, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Commitment to promoting student achievement and faculty growth.
- Ability to clear a criminal background check.
- Familiarity with Concordia University of Edmonton’s culture, strategic priorities, and challenges is favorable.
- Experience advancing faculty research, innovation, and community engagement initiatives preferred.
Working Conditions
- Office-based role involving prolonged sitting and computer work.
