Role Overview

We are seeking a Data Network L2 Engineer specializing in MPLS and SD-WAN technologies to be based in Doha, Qatar. This full-time position involves managing advanced network troubleshooting, incident resolution, network optimization, and vendor coordination to ensure service reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve complex network issues related to MPLS L3VPN/L2VPN failures, routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, static routes, SD-WAN overlay and underlay instability, as well as latency, jitter, and packet loss using CLI, logs, and monitoring tools.
  • Take ownership of critical P1/P2 incidents escalated from the L1 team and restore services within stipulated MTTR targets; address problems such as PE/CE connectivity, VRF routing errors, tunnel failures (IPSec/SD-WAN), and QoS degradations.
  • Perform detailed routing and protocol analysis including BGP peering and route propagation, OSPF neighbor and LSDB issues, MPLS label forwarding, and resolve routing anomalies like loops, flaps, and asymmetries.
  • Operate and troubleshoot SD-WAN solutions (e.g., Viptela, Meraki, Fortinet), verifying edge device status, control connections, overlay tunnels, and policy or configuration inconsistencies.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for major network incidents, identifying configuration errors, hardware/software faults, ISP or backhaul problems, and policy misconfigurations; propose corrective and preventive measures.
  • Support network change management and implementation activities including validation of network modifications, routing updates, device upgrades, ensuring impact assessment and rollback plans are in place.
  • Collaborate effectively with vendors and stakeholders such as OEMs (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet), ISPs, and carrier providers; manage vendor escalations and TAC cases.
  • Evaluate recurring incidents to drive network performance and stability enhancements, recommending improvements for routing stability, bandwidth usage, and fine-tuning SD-WAN policies.
  • Provide guidance to L1 teams on troubleshooting methods; contribute to improving standard operating procedures and knowledge bases; perform quality audits on ticket handling processes.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Expertise in MPLS (L2 and L3 VPN architectures)
  • Strong working knowledge of routing protocols including BGP and OSPF
  • Comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP stack and network fundamentals
  • Proficiency with SD-WAN platforms such as Viptela, Meraki, and Fortinet
  • Hands-on experience using CLI for troubleshooting, analyzing network logs and packets
  • Familiarity with Quality of Service (QoS) and Service Level Agreement (SLA) monitoring
  • Awareness of network redundancy and failover techniques

Experience and Educational Qualifications

  • Between 3 to 7 years of relevant industry experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Technology or Diploma in Telecom, Networking, or IT fields
  • Certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are preferred
  • SD-WAN specific certification is advantageous

Performance Metrics

  • Reduction in mean time to repair (MTTR)
  • Quality and timeliness of root cause analyses
  • Effective resolution of high-severity incidents
  • Decrease in recurrence of network issues
  • Successful rate of network changes and implementations
  • Timely coordination with vendors and resolution of escalations

Additional Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Network Operations Center (NOC) and Service Assurance practices
  • Familiarity with incident, problem, and change management processes
  • Experience with tools such as ServiceNow, Remedy, Jira, and network monitoring systems (NMS/EMS)
  • Effective communication skills for customer and internal stakeholder interactions
  • Capability to work in 24x7 shift environments
