Cyber Security Specialist

Position Overview

Softgic is seeking a skilled Cyber Security Specialist based in Nairobi, Kenya. The ideal candidate will hold at least a bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security, IT, or a related discipline, or possess an equivalent mix of education and no less than four years of relevant professional experience. This role demands expertise with network protocols, operating systems, applications, and various security technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor network traffic, system logs, endpoints, and security notifications to detect potential threats and identify vulnerabilities.
• Handle investigations and responses related to security incidents, including network breaches and data compromises.
• Evaluate vulnerability assessments and assist in remediation and risk-reduction strategies.
• Manage and utilize multiple security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, and firewalls effectively.
• Generate and maintain cybersecurity incident tickets, comprehensive documentation, and procedural reports.
• Work alongside IT and software development teams to enhance security operations and system defenses.
• Facilitate compliance audits and disseminate security awareness, principles, and best practices within the organization.

Requirements and Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security, IT, or equivalent field; 4+ years of relevant experience acceptable as alternative.
• Proficiency with network protocols, operating systems, and security infrastructures.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, and firewall administration.
• Strong understanding of threat detection, incident management, and vulnerability handling.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment capabilities.
• Effective communication, organizational skills, and capability to collaborate across teams.

Additional Preferred Skills

• Knowledge or experience with cloud security services on platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Familiarity with compliance and security standards like SOC 2, NIST, GDPR, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS.
• Experience scripting or automating tasks with Python or PowerShell is advantageous.
• Possessing certifications such as Security+, CEH, or equivalents in cybersecurity is a plus.
