Job Overview

Under general guidance, the Cook is responsible for fully performing tasks related to preparing, cooking, and baking food items within a state government facility. The position demands skill in handling food preparation and flexibility to adjust to the nutritional and operational requirements of the institution.

Compensation and Special Pay

• An additional $5,000 will be added to the starting salary for employees working at designated Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities, including Martinsburg Correctional Center and others as listed.
• After one year of service, employees receive an annual base building pay differential of $250 each fiscal year.
• Employees transferred out of Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities lose the $5,000 pay supplement unless moving to another such facility.

Qualifications

• Must pass an eighth-grade level written test.
• Require at least one year of paid experience, full or equivalent part-time, in large-scale food preparation and serving.
• Must provide an approved food handler's certificate within seven days of hire.
