The BizOps & Finance team at Metabase handles core operational systems including finance, sales and legal operations, always taking a systematic, automated approach to streamline company workflows.

We are seeking a skilled Controller to lead accounting and financial functions. This role encompasses managing core accounting, audits, tax, payments, and expenses. Currently these activities are largely handled via external accounting and tax partners, so initial efforts will focus on managing and coordinating with these vendors. There is potential to internalize these processes as Metabase grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the general ledger and manage month-end closing reviews conducted by external accountants; identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Lead engagement with external auditors, coordinating internal requests and resolving any audit findings.
• Manage external tax accounting relationships and perform direct tax-related activities such as state registrations and payments.
• Administer accounts payable and expense processes, handling payment cycles and maintaining corporate card and expense systems.
• Eventually spearhead the deployment of new financial systems including ERP, revenue recognition modules, and payment platforms; potentially establish an in-house closing process.

Candidate Profile

• Experienced certified public accountant (CPA) well-versed in US GAAP, SaaS revenue recognition, stock compensation, and complex accounting across multiple entities including international aspects.
• Proven history of managing full-cycle monthly and quarterly close processes and comprehensive audit projects.
• Prior startup or Big 4 audit experience is advantageous.
• Academic background in accounting, finance, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• Excellent investigative abilities to detect anomalies and reconstruct financial histories.
• Meticulous attention to detail with uncompromising accuracy standards.
• Strong organizational capability managing multiple concurrent workstreams.
• Humble and pragmatic team player willing to engage hands-on in operations.
• Resides in the United States.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual US base salary for this position ranges from $125,000 to $200,000, complemented by equity participation and a full suite of employee benefits. Compensation reflects the candidate's role, experience, skills, and geographic location.
