Job Overview

This role involves leveraging strategic communications to affect millions in Colorado positively, serving as the brand advocate and primary voice for the Division of Motor Vehicles. The Communications and Content Specialist will lead public relations, media management, employee engagement initiatives, high-profile campaign launches, news media relations, and digital content production. This position requires creativity, collaborative team spirit, keen attention to details, and a passion for clear, effective communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and assess comprehensive strategic communication programs, including PR and marketing activities for the Division
  • Manage media relations by responding to inquiries, coordinating spokesperson appearances, developing key messages, and guiding press responses for notable events
  • Produce and edit various public-facing materials such as press releases, fact sheets, presentations, and official reports including annual publications
  • Collaborate on website development and oversee social media strategy and content scheduling for the Division
  • Design and implement internal communication strategies to keep all departments aligned and informed
  • Develop communication plans to support new legislation, policy changes, and significant project rollouts
  • Engage with partners and county stakeholders through weekly updates and manage requests for external communications
  • Advise on customer interaction strategies especially handling complex or dissatisfied public inquiries to standardize responses
  • Provide leadership with regular reports and strategic advice ensuring alignment between divisions and the Department of Revenue’s Communications Director

Residency and Employment Conditions

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have at least six years of relevant experience in journalism, public relations, or press release writing, or a combination of education in Journalism, English, Public Relations, or Digital Media with equivalent professional experience totaling six years.

  • Media relations, press outreach, public affairs, or governmental communication experience
  • Advanced writing skills in journalism, corporate communications, or feature writing
  • Additional professional experience in journalism or public relations
  • Proficiency using tools like Canva, Drupal, Constant Contact, and Google Suite
