Clinical Scientist - MR Physics

About the Role

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for an enthusiastic and dedicated MR Clinical Scientist to join its MR Physics Group. This opportunity is ideal for a clinical scientist with experience in MR physics or an INIR STP trainee eager to advance their career in clinical MR physics. Candidates with less experience or academic backgrounds may be considered for a junior appointment initially.

The MR Physics Group is embedded within the Imaging Physics and Radiation Protection department, comprising twelve specialists who support over 50 MR systems across 12 NHS Trusts throughout the North West of England. The team provides comprehensive support, working closely with clinical staff to enhance imaging quality and develop services. Key responsibilities include acting as MRSE, conducting equipment testing, and delivering educational programs.

Research opportunities are also prominent, with active participation in Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) projects and productive collaborations with the Radiotherapy Related Research team at the University of Manchester.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE) support across The Christie and affiliated NHS trusts in the North West region.
• Deliver clinical and scientific expertise to optimize MR services for patient care.
• Engage in teaching activities, including postgraduate courses at local universities and collaborations with the North West England Imaging Academy.
• Conduct equipment installation testing, performance audits, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience and expertise in MR physics.
• Postgraduate qualification in medical physics.
• Excellent communication skills for effective interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Willingness and ability to regularly travel to NHS trusts within the North West Imaging Networks (usually within an hour's travel from The Christie Hospital).
• Capability to initiate and implement service improvements and innovative solutions within a multidisciplinary framework.
