Role Overview
The Associate Fabric Developer will contribute to the fabric development lifecycle by supporting seasonal and core fabric projects that fulfill the brand’s criteria for aesthetics, performance, and quality. This role collaborates closely with the Materials Manager, Fabric, and cross-functional teams such as Design, Product Development, and Raw Materials Quality to ensure fabric developments proceed smoothly through submission coordination, tracking, and handoff to stakeholders responsible for testing and commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with fabric development for both seasonal and ongoing projects across all product lines.
- Coordinate fabric development submissions, including managing strike-offs and sample or development yardage.
- Monitor progress, revisions, and approvals in the PLM system, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate with international fabric suppliers regarding timelines, submissions, and feedback.
- Collaborate with Design and Product Development teams to evaluate fabric aesthetics, texture, construction, and suitability.
- Prepare and facilitate the transition of developed fabrics to Persons in Charge (PIC) for subsequent testing and commercialization steps.
- Maintain thorough seasonal fabric documentation and manage both physical and digital fabric libraries.
- Provide consistent updates on development statuses to internal partners across functions.
- Support visibility on cost factors during development, flagging risks or alterations to the Materials Manager.
- Handle logistics related to shipping and receipt of fabric submissions and development materials.
- Assist with product setup and ongoing data upkeep in PLM and ERP systems.
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Textiles, Textile Engineering, Materials Science, or an allied discipline.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in fabric or materials development, ideally within outdoor or performance apparel sectors.
- Familiarity with fabric construction techniques, textile manufacturing processes, and typical development timelines.
- Meticulous attention to detail and capability to oversee multiple fabric developments simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills with process orientation, aligned to seasonal schedules.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across various functions and global regions.
- Proactive, adaptable, and solution-focused mindset.
- Experience working with suppliers beyond North America is advantageous.
- Fluent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and PLM systems; Illustrator knowledge considered a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $53,000 to $74,000. This range is a guideline reflecting position responsibilities, market benchmarking, and internal consistency. Offers will be tailored based on individual expertise and fit with the role.
