Role Overview
The Assistant Marine Technician plays a key supporting role to senior technicians and supervisors in maintaining and repairing vessels and marine equipment at global destinations owned by Carnival Corporation. The position involves assisting with inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on engines, propulsion, electrical and safety systems to guarantee reliable and compliant vessel operation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Help perform routine and corrective maintenance on engines, propulsion, steering, and auxiliary machinery.
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults under guidance.
- Carry out servicing tasks like oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and system adjustments.
- Maintain and organize tools, spare parts, and workshop equipment ensuring readiness.
- Support overhaul and upgrade activities to improve equipment longevity and efficiency.
- Contribute to enforcing safety standards and inspect safety equipment such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, and alarms.
- Support environmental compliance via safe disposal of oils, fuels, and waste.
- Report hazards or unsafe conditions promptly to supervisors.
- Participate in safety training and emergency preparedness drills.
- Provide technical assistance during marine operations, including start-up and monitoring checks.
- Help coordinate logistics for maintenance and manage inventory of spare parts and consumables.
- Accurately document maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment performance for record-keeping and audits.
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; further education in hospitality or related fields is beneficial.
- Technical or vocational training in marine engineering, mechanics, or related disciplines preferred.
- Relevant safety and marine certifications are advantageous.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in marine or mechanical maintenance, ideally in a junior or assistant role.
Skills and Attributes
- Working knowledge of marine systems including outboard motors and fuel systems.
- Proficiency with hand tools and diagnostic devices, following technical manuals.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively in physically demanding, outdoor environments.
- Effective communication, record-keeping, and reporting skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and data entry tools.
- Strong problem-solving, multi-tasking, planning and coordination abilities.
- Physically fit, able to stand for long periods and work in various environmental conditions.
- Willingness to work shifts as required at multiple destinations.
