Job description
About the Role
We are developing a physics-informed, self-play-trained digital model for versatile robot fleets. However, the most effective way to identify valuable use scenarios, challenging problems, and acceptable performance benchmarks involves deploying robots in real customer environments. In this role, you will lead deployments of humanoid robots to perform clearly defined, practical tasks utilizing the best open-source software available. Your practical experience will enrich customer insights and establish performance baselines to guide our research improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the scope and manage the installation and operation of humanoid robot deployments at client locations, focusing on well-scoped, high-value assignments that can expand over time.
- Utilize existing open-source robotic software and control systems to deliver effective solutions promptly rather than waiting for in-house models to mature.
- Collaborate directly with customers from diverse sectors to identify the most promising initial use cases and thoroughly understand operational requirements.
- Develop structured benchmarks for every deployment, setting a clear performance standard for internally developed models to surpass before field replacement.
- Relay insights on task structures, failure modes, and customer constraints directly to the research team to influence priorities.
Candidate Profile
- Proven hands-on experience deploying robotic systems (preferably humanoid but not limited to) in uncontrolled, real-world conditions outside laboratory settings.
- Strong expertise with open-source robotics software and control frameworks; adept at integrating and adapting these tools rapidly instead of building new solutions from zero.
- A keen interest in the practical aspects of robotics adoption, including use case definition, expectation management, and understanding reliability thresholds required for dependable operations.
- A capacity to work independently in deployment scenarios, managing early-stage, practical, and often modest tasks alone.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous exposure to customer-facing or on-site deployment roles, such as industrial automation, applied robotics, or system integration.
- Knowledge of benchmarking approaches designed to create fair, repeatable, and predictive assessments of robotic performance.
- Experience working with humanoid platforms or flexible, multi-purpose robotic hardware.
- Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
