Role Purpose

We are amidst a transformative AI enhancement that will be a defining moment in the Australia-New Zealand market. Our customers are enthusiastic about our expanding AI-powered service offerings. As an AI Architect, you will define and lead the technical vision for AI solutions by designing scalable, secure, and production-ready architectures. You will bridge the divide between business strategy and implementation by translating complex needs into effective blueprints leveraging cloud platforms, large language models, and agentic AI methods.

Your solid background in software engineering combined with practical AI knowledge will be essential as you provide technical guidance, select appropriate technologies, set architectural standards, and ensure robust AI solution foundations. As part of the Digital Engineering leadership team, you will collaborate across multiple projects to shape Datacom's AI-enabled future.

Key Responsibilities

• Own technical architecture for AI solutions across diverse customer projects, standardizing choices on AI technologies, tools, and platforms.
• Create reference architectures, design patterns, and best practices for AI solution delivery.
• Conduct architecture reviews and enforce governance across engineering teams.
• Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, and engineers to translate business goals into scalable technical designs.
• Design AI data architectures covering data ingestion, processing, storage, and retrieval.
• Set standards for AI quality assurance, testing, security, and monitoring.
• Guide build versus buy decisions and manage relationships with technology vendors and partners.
• Mentor engineering teams in AI architecture and best practices.
• Stay updated with evolving AI technologies and provide actionable insights.
• Present architectural strategies to senior leadership and clients.

Required Expertise

• Proficiency in agentic AI and multi-agent orchestration including tools, planning, reflection, and chain-of-thought methodologies.
• Development of AI evaluation frameworks with metrics, benchmarks, and quality assurance for non-deterministic systems.
• Expertise in prompt engineering, prompt security including injection prevention and guardrails.
• Ensuring dependable model serving, GPU optimization, and cost-effective AI inference.
• Capable of designing comprehensive solutions incorporating frontend, backend, data, and AI layers.
• Strong skills in architectural documentation, including decision records and reference models.
• Mastery of distributed systems, event-driven design, and microservice architectures.
• Experience in AI data modeling, pipeline construction, and governance frameworks.
• Design and integration of APIs such as REST, GraphQL, and gRPC for AI services.
• Expertise in security practices including threat modeling, responsible AI, data privacy, and regulatory compliance.
• Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, and GCP along with AI-managed services like Bedrock, SageMaker, Vertex AI, and Azure OpenAI.
• Familiarity with serverless and container technologies such as ECS/EKS, Cloud Run, and Lambda.
• Building vector search infrastructure using technologies like Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector, and OpenSearch.
• Applying Infrastructure as Code approaches with tools like Terraform, CDK, and Pulumi alongside GitOps practices.
• Focus on AI financial operations and optimization of costs.
• Expert Python skills for prototyping, code review, and critical technical decisions.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript for comprehensive full-stack designs.
• Utilization of AI frameworks including Semantic Kernel and AgentCore.
• Implementation of AI observability with tracing, logging, monitoring, and drift detection capabilities.
• Leadership in mentoring and guiding technical teams.
• Ability to communicate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
• Facilitating architecture reviews, design workshops, and governance meetings.
