About the Organisation
The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) operates collaboratively across Bridgend, Cardiff, and the Vale of Glamorgan, delivering comprehensive regulatory services to protect consumers, aid businesses, and uphold fair trading environments. Role Overview
We are looking for a qualified and driven Trading Standards Officer to join our Enterprise and Specialist Services Team. This role offers the chance to engage in diverse activities across the full spectrum of Trading Standards, with emphasis on industrial and non-retail sectors. A significant responsibility includes working in our UKAS-accredited metrology laboratory and contributing to its commercial growth.
Key Duties
- Conduct inspections, audits, and investigations at manufacturing and commercial sites.
- Lead and manage intricate investigations involving violations of Trading Standards legislation.
- Carry out metrological enforcement, including equipment testing used in trade.
- Support and expand operations in the UKAS-accredited metrology laboratory and its commercial services.
- Develop and implement sampling plans, surveys, and new service initiatives.
- Offer specialist advisory support to businesses, including Primary Authority partnerships.
- Prepare legal cases and present evidence in courts, tribunals, and related proceedings.
The role also involves wider regulatory compliance work in partnership with other internal and external bodies.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a Professional CTSI qualification (Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent) including Weights & Measures and Food Standards modules.
- Have demonstrated experience in enforcement, inspections, and investigative aspects of Trading Standards.
- Be knowledgeable of Trading Standards laws and principles of evidence collection.
- Display confidence in handling complex casework and achieving effective enforcement results.
- Specialist skills or experience in metrology or in industrial and commercial sectors are highly valued.
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical abilities.
- Proactive, flexible, and dedicated to ongoing professional growth.
- Prepared to travel throughout Bridgend, Cardiff, and the Vale of Glamorgan and to work beyond regular hours when necessary.
Additional Information
Consideration may be given to candidates interested in a secondment, subject to approval from their current line managers.
The role is permanent, with a flexible 37-hour workweek. Applications for part-time or job-sharing arrangements are welcome.
Salary Grade 9, SCP 31 - 35: £41,771 - £46,142 per annum.
Work locations include various offices across Bridgend, Cardiff, and the Vale of Glamorgan with some home working possible.
