About the Team
The Risk team plays a vital role in Stripe's mission by developing products and infrastructure relied upon by Stripe businesses, internal product groups, regulators, and financial partners. This includes onboarding firms to Stripe and managing regulatory compliance at scale. The Technical Program Manager (TPM) team spearheads complex, organization-wide programs that empower businesses to flourish on Stripe, support safe product launches at scale, and sustain Stripe’s position as a trusted financial network.
Role Overview
In this managerial capacity, you will oversee a team of TPMs and Product Group Managers across multiple locations. Your leadership will ensure successful delivery of Stripe's most intricate and critical projects aligned with Risk’s goals. Responsibilities include hiring, mentoring, and fostering career growth of TPMs. Additionally, you will personally lead critical, complex initiatives requiring direct involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop high-performing teams and managers across various locations including conducting performance evaluations, providing continuous feedback, and facilitating career progression.
- Establish and execute long-term visions and multi-year strategies for company-wide initiatives in collaboration with product and engineering leadership.
- Set success metrics, craft delivery plans, identify risks, and guarantee the execution of the Risk team’s most complex programs.
- Enhance communication and operational workflows within teams to substantially boost productivity and efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
- More than five years of management experience at varying levels, which includes managing other managers.
- At least eight years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or technical product/program management.
- Proven expertise in identifying and nurturing talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development discussions.
- Demonstrated ability to drive technical programs from concept through delivery on a large scale and manage teams of TPMs with similar accomplishments.
- Experience working independently across multiple teams and disciplines, collaborating with stakeholders across different time zones.
- Strong critical thinking skills and capability to provide thought leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading geographically distributed teams.
- Background managing teams responsible for critical infrastructure design and operations.
- Empathy for customer needs paired with visionary thinking beyond incremental improvements.
- Enthusiasm for cross-functional collaboration with various teams within the organization.
- Prior experience as an engineer or in a comparable technical role.
