About Elders

Joining Elders means becoming part of a family-oriented, iconic Australian agribusiness with over 185 years of heritage. Our business is deeply rooted in rural communities, emphasizing passion, dedication, and resilience in everything we do. Elders supports the agricultural sector with a comprehensive network offering a variety of products and services, including farm supplies, agronomy, livestock, wool, grain, finance, insurance, and real estate. We are dedicated to fostering sustainable prosperity in rural and regional areas both locally and internationally.

The Role

We are seeking a permanent, full-time Stock Agent based in Longreach, Queensland. This role focuses on serving as the trusted advisor and primary contact for livestock clients throughout the region. You will collaborate closely with local producers and the branch team to aid on-farm success by guiding clients on livestock sales, general merchandise, nutrition and supplement offerings, as well as animal health solutions.

Key duties include assisting with sale preparations by managing cattle weighing, processing, vaccinating, and drenching on farms, in addition to identifying opportunities for cross-selling Elders’ extensive range of products and services. This position is heavily relationship-driven, requiring strong client engagement and business development across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Build and nurture service-oriented relationships with livestock clients.
  • Organize and conduct on-site livestock evaluations and prepare sale listings.
  • Manage livestock sales via auctions, paddock sales, feedlot programs, or online platforms.
  • Deliver accurate market information and price forecasts to clients.
  • Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities within agency, finance, insurance, and retail segments.
  • Stay informed on livestock market trends, pricing, and seasonal influences.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with livestock handling, such as station or feedlot work, or familiarity with sales processing.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and client service capabilities.
  • Ability to accurately evaluate livestock condition and value.
  • Valid driver’s license and selling license, or readiness to obtain these.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for rural communities and the agricultural industry.
  • Proof of Q-Fever vaccination or immunity, or willingness to obtain.

Additional Information

This position reflects a commitment to diversity and inclusion, encouraging applications from candidates of all backgrounds with the legal right to work in Australia. The recruitment process may involve shortlisting as applications are received. For further details, applicants can contact the Branch Manager, Tim Salter, directly.
