Position Overview
We are looking for a Staff Software Systems Engineer based in Thornhill, Toronto, Canada. This is a full-time, onsite position reporting to the Senior Manager of Applications Engineering. The hiring process is ongoing until the position is filled, and applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and enhance CI/CD infrastructure to speed up engineering productivity.
- Balance deep technical expertise with practical business considerations.
- Keep up to date with DevOps best practices and emerging tools and technologies.
- Collaborate with developers to eliminate build and deployment obstacles.
- Design scalable solutions that grow with organizational needs.
Candidate Profile
- Communicate complex technical topics clearly to various audiences.
- Collaborate well with development, operations, and product teams across multiple time zones.
- Produce clear, maintainable documentation for systems and workflows.
- Apply creativity and persistence in solving complex technical challenges.
- Follow through diligently to resolve issues fully.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to team growth.
- Ensure the integrity and reliability of build systems.
- Effectively work in distributed teams using strong asynchronous communication skills.
Required Skills and Experience
- Expertise in CI/CD platforms, particularly Jenkins (Declarative and Scripted Pipelines).
- Proficiency with Maven and Gradle build tools and scripting.
- Advanced skills in Bash and Groovy scripting languages.
- Extensive experience with GitHub, including workflows, branching strategies, merge management, and pull request reviews.
- Experience integrating AI/ML agents into CI/CD workflows.
- Familiarity with GitHub Copilot for automating code generation and scripting.
- Knowledge of Claude.ai or similar large language models for documentation and problem-solving.
- Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and deployment.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Ansible, Terraform, and Helm.
- Experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD and Flux.
- Competence in artifact repository management (Artifactory, Nexus) and release automation strategies.
- Ability to manage incident response and triage build failures.
- Solid understanding of Linux environments and command-line operations.
Educational & Professional Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
- Minimum 8 years total work experience with at least 5 years in build and release engineering roles.
- Proven track record designing and maintaining scalable CI/CD pipelines.
Compensation and Benefits
This role offers a competitive annual salary ranging from 120,000 to 140,000 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications. It includes eligibility for a performance-based bonus and a comprehensive benefits package that may consist of medical, dental, and vision insurance, flexible work schedules, paid time off and holidays, retirement savings with RRSP matching in Canada, employee stock purchase programs, employee assistance programs, and tuition reimbursement where applicable.
