<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">This is a 14 month fixed-term position providing parental leave cover. (potential to be extended to 18 months)</span></p>
<p><br><span style="font-size: 12pt;">As a Software Engineer in the Technical Operations' Systems Engineering & Integration team, you will help build and integrate web applications, APIs and infrastructure services used by our internal customers, engineering teams and operational partners.</span><br><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Our team works across frontend, backend and infrastructure systems. We develop new capabilities, connect existing platforms and create cohesive user experiences for complex infrastructure and operational workflows.</span><br><span style="font-size: 12pt;">You do not need to be experienced across the entire technology stack. Your primary experience can be in one of the following areas:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Frontend engineering</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Backend engineering</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">DevOps, platform or infrastructure engineering</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">You will have opportunities to develop your skills in the other areas while contributing to services and applications from initial design through implementation, integration and production release.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><strong>Main duties</strong></span></h3>
<ul>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Implement and deliver features and customer requirements from concept through production release</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Develop or integrate frontend applications, backend services, APIs or infrastructure components</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Work with engineers and stakeholders across infrastructure, networking, platform and product teams</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Improve the reliability, maintainability and operational readiness of our services</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Investigate and prioritize bugs, technical issues and integration problems</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Write unit and integration tests</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Communicate progress, estimates, risks and impediments clearly</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Contribute to technical documentation and share knowledge with the engineering team</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Collaborate with UX designers, software engineers, architects and platform teams</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Learn from experienced team members and contribute to technical discussions and engineering practices</span></li>
</ul>
<h3><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><strong>Requirements</strong></span></h3>
<ul>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Some professional, academic or personal experience developing software, web applications, services or infrastructure</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience in at least one of the following areas:</span></li>
<ul>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">TypeScript, JavaScript or frontend development</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Go or another backend programming language</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">DevOps, cloud, platform or infrastructure engineering</span></li>
</ul>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">A basic understanding of software development practices</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience working in an agile and collaborative development environment</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Good communication and documentation skills</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">A reliable and accountable approach to delivering work</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Comfortable collaborating with people from different technical and professional backgrounds</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Willingness to learn and develop skills across different areas of software and systems engineering</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Basic knowledge of Linux and command-line tools</span></li>
</ul>
<h3><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><strong>Desirable skills</strong></span></h3>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Any of the following would be beneficial, but candidates are not expected to have experience in all of them:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience integrating frontend and backend systems</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience with HTTP, REST APIs, JSON or GraphQL</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience with React or another modern frontend framework</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or cloud infrastructure</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience with CI/CD or infrastructure as code</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience developing or supporting customer portals, developer portals, self-service applications or ticketing systems</span></li>
<li style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Experience with relational or NoSQL databases</span></li>
</ul>
