Over 20 years, Phocas has developed financial planning and analytics solutions embraced globally by almost 300 employees. This role focuses on removing engineering bottlenecks and enhancing engineering productivity through innovative tooling and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and eliminate obstacles that hinder engineering teams by improving tooling, automation, documentation, or methods.

- Support teams in adopting AI tools effectively and investigate innovative applications of AI to software development workflows.
- Produce clear, practical documentation that is easy to understand and use across the organization.
- Adapt quickly to diverse problems and technologies, enjoying a broad and varied workload.
Required Qualifications and Attributes
- Approximately 3-4 years of software development experience, preferably with a background in platform or enablement teams.
- Strong programming skills with an emphasis on reliable application development.
- Basic knowledge or experience in DevOps practices, including CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure environments, ideally on AWS.
- A practical, results-focused approach prioritizing engineering output over purely elegant code.
- Excellent communication and writing abilities to facilitate cross-team consulting and the creation of useful documentation.
- A service-oriented mindset who derives fulfillment from helping unblock colleagues and improving team performance.
- Bonus: awareness of security principles and experience working in small teams with high visibility and accountability.
Why Choose Phocas?
- Collaborative environment with a team-oriented culture people truly appreciate.
- Opportunity to make high-impact improvements that benefit all engineering teams simultaneously.
- Exposure to a wide variety of technologies, projects, and challenges.
- Dedicated 10% time for personal development and learning each fortnight.
- A culture embracing AI to enhance software development processes.
- Modern, spacious office located in sunny Sydenham with facilities for cars, bikes, and scooters.
- Attractive benefits including Southern Cross health insurance, life and income protection, additional paid parental leave, and more.
- Flexible work arrangements including hybrid and flexible hours.
