Software Engineer - Application Security and Site Reliability Engineering (Contract)

About the Role

You will join the Central Banking & Development Platforms (CBD) payments team responsible for managing critical systems including the MAS Electronic Payment System (MEPS+), domestic securities management platforms, and the Special Singapore Government Securities system within the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). Your role is pivotal in supporting interbank payments, securities, and trade settlement operations, understanding their interactions with other financial market infrastructures such as the Automated Clearing House (ACH).

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and maintain the health of production applications by investigating errors, exceptions, and system alerts to ensure service reliability.
• Define and refine Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) to enhance alert accuracy and reduce false alarms.
• Analyze application architecture and integration points to facilitate efficient troubleshooting.
• Conduct daily operational health checks and maintain observability using tools like Grafana and the ELK stack.
• Coordinate monthly and quarterly patching schedules, collaborating with infrastructure teams to ensure successful updates of systems and endpoints.
• Document patch outcomes for audit and governance purposes, and provide timely responses to audit Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Support application security assessments and lead efforts in vulnerability remediation.
• Develop and implement contingency task lists, perform disaster recovery drills, and manage incident response activities including monthly internal drills and CyberEx exercises participation.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure prompt resolution of incidents, document incidents comprehensively, and contribute to post-incident analyses and continuous process improvements.

Candidate Profile and Skills

• Minimum of five years' experience in application support, operations, or site reliability engineering, preferably within payments, securities settlement, or financial market infrastructure sectors.
• Proficient in managing Java/J2EE application environments with a strong troubleshooting background for production issues.
• Experienced in SQL querying for production database analysis.
• Working knowledge of Linux/RHEL and shell scripting.
• Familiarity with application integration patterns, web services, RESTful APIs, monitoring platforms (e.g., Grafana, ELK stack), and security practices relating to patching and vulnerability management.
• Competence in responding to audit and compliance inquiries within ICT governance frameworks.
• Technical skills include expertise in JBoss EAP, OpenShift, container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, job scheduling software (e.g., Autosys), file transfer protocols like SFTP and MQ, and the SWIFT messaging platform.
• Experience working on digital projects in government or regulated industries is desirable.
• Relevant certifications such as Java, CKAD/CKA, or ITIL are advantageous.
• An analytical mindset with outstanding problem-solving capabilities, effective communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders, strong organizational skills, and ability to operate collaboratively or independently under pressure.

Additional Information
