Software Development Manager - Internet Edge Services

About the Role

Join Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services, responsible for the design, delivery, and operation of AWS's global infrastructure that keeps cloud services continuously running. The team manages data centers, servers, storage, networking, and power systems ensuring uninterrupted innovation for customers worldwide.

As a Software Development Manager in the Internet Edge Services group, you will lead a team building and managing globally distributed software supporting software-defined networks (SDN) that power AWS's internet edge and global traffic optimization. You will collaborate across engineering teams based in the USA and Australia to create scalable solutions that provide exceptional network experiences at minimal cost.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a high-performing software engineering team in delivering SDN traffic engineering solutions for AWS's internet edge networks.
• Manage sprint planning and ensure clear project goals and deliverables for your team.
• Prepare project updates and reports for executive review, including Director-level stakeholders.
• Review solution designs and coordinate stakeholder feedback to maintain high-quality software architecture.
• Oversee operational metrics to boost security, availability, and service effectiveness.
• Drive process improvements and software innovation across your engineering domain.
• Handle escalations promptly and provide mentorship to engineering staff.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience managing engineering teams.
• At least 7 years of engineering experience.
• 8+ years leading development of multi-tier web services.
• Strong understanding of engineering practices throughout the software/hardware/network lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certifications, and live-site operations.
• Experience collaborating with product or program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with users, technical teams, and senior leadership on product features, technical design, and strategy.
• Proven track record in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and coaching software engineers to enhance their skills and productivity.
