About the Role
Apple is seeking a dedicated Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Manager to lead and expand a specialized security-focused SRE team within Apple Services Engineering. The ASE team develops critical infrastructure that supports major Apple services like iCloud, iTunes, Siri, and Maps, forming the backbone of incredible customer experiences. This leadership position entails overseeing foundational security services that include host access control, disk encryption, identity management, and authentication systems—vital to the security of Apple's global infrastructure and data.
Key Responsibilities
As the SRE Manager, you will be responsible for enhancing the reliability, observability, and maintainability of security infrastructure services across both cloud and on-premises environments. You will manage and grow a European-based team, collaborating globally with US-based SRE peers and Security Development teams. Your work will involve making infrastructure services highly available and resilient, implementing robust security measures, incident management protocols, and automation tools to bolster Apple's security posture.
Essential Qualifications
- Experience in engineering management, particularly leading SRE teams and mission-critical production systems with increasing scope.
- Capabilities in managing distributed teams across multiple time zones, with proficiency in asynchronous communication and coordination.
- A strong grasp of SRE methodologies such as monitoring, alerting, error budgets, and fault analysis.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Golang, Java, Rust, or Python, with familiarity in standard software development life cycles.
- Sound understanding of infrastructure security fundamentals and principles.
Preferred Skills and Background
- Experience designing and operating large-scale, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Advanced knowledge of operating system internals, including multithreading, memory management, networking, storage, performance, and system scalability.
- Familiarity with container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker, ideally with certifications like CNCF Kubernetes Administrator.
- Expertise in Linux security systems, SELinux, container security, and packaging.
- Awareness of MacOS security mechanisms.
- A BS/MS degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus 5+ years in software development or large-scale production operations.
- Relevant security experience and certifications such as OSCP, OSCE, or OSEE are advantageous but not mandatory.
