Job description
Job Overview
The Service Engineer will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and testing fire safety equipment and systems to ensure they meet safety standards and operational requirements. This role demands proficiency in handling firefighting equipment and systems as well as effective interaction with customers and team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly inspections alongside preventative maintenance on fire extinguishers, fire hoses, automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarms, risers, valves, pumps, and fire doors.
- Repair, replace, refill, and tag all fire extinguishers and hoses within the facility.
- Complete inspection reports electronically or manually in a punctual manner.
- Communicate effectively with clients to report any system shortcomings and ensure timely resolution.
- Manage task scheduling and complete duties as assigned.
- Document working hours and all task-related paperwork promptly.
- Operate and service fire safety equipment and conduct necessary tests using hand tools and specialized equipment.
- Use tools like electric carts, high lifts, and scissors lifts safely and independently.
- Adhere to personal safety protocols using protective gear including fall, hearing, eye, and head protection.
- Use two-way radio systems for communication.
- Inspect and maintain fire safety equipment in compliance with applicable fire safety codes.
- Disassemble and examine fire extinguishers for mechanical and material issues; replace damaged parts as needed.
- Clean and recharge extinguishers using approved materials.
- Test and repair related fire systems such as smoke detectors, sprinklers, dry standpipe, and pull systems.
- Assist in comprehensive fire safety inspections.
- Respond promptly to fire alarms and emergency scenes as part of the fire company operations.
- Perform general maintenance, cleaning, polishing, and testing on fire equipment and apparatus.
- Operate and maintain pumps, hoses, breathing apparatus, and other specialized equipment.
- Be available for emergency call duties as part of regular work responsibilities, working both on and off duty as needed.
- Participate in company drills, training exercises, including classroom and practical sessions.
- Drive and operate fire apparatus, including engines, pumps, and specialized tools, ensuring equipment functionality and safety.
- Prepare for pumping operations by connecting hydrants and pumping water at required pressures.
- Maintain consistent attendance and be flexible to assignment locations based on operational needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of inspection, repair, maintenance, and testing methods for fire safety equipment and systems.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and hydrostatic test equipment.
- Experience with fire safety system components such as extinguishers, sprinklers, smoke detectors, and alarm systems.
- Ability to operate various lifting equipment and fire apparatus safely.
- Competence in communication and reporting to clients and team members.
Additional Information
- Role requires the use of personal protective equipment including fall protection, hearing, eye, and head protection devices.
- Emergency call duty is a mandatory part of the role, including availability off duty.
- This position involves both fieldwork and maintenance tasks at multiple locations as assigned.
Compensation
Monthly salary ranges from 20,000 to 30,000 INR.
