Role Overview

The Montreal Tools team designs, develops, and maintains internal tools that support the creation, organization, profiling, and optimization of game content such as environments, missions, level of detail (LOD), procedural scattering, and data visualization. These tools are used both within the editor and directly in-game.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, maintain, and enhance tools for content development in Star Citizen.
• Work closely with artists, designers, content developers, and software engineers to gather requirements and create effective tool designs.
• Contribute ideas towards all aspects of tool production and development.
• Research and assess new third-party game development tools.
• Provide ongoing support to tool users.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ programming experience in tools development or a related area.
• Strong user experience awareness.
• Ability to make confident technical decisions independently.
• Deliver projects on schedule with a focus on quality.
• Expertise in modern C++ programming language and development tools on Windows.
• Robust software engineering skills.
• Keen understanding of software design principles and troubleshooting best practices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Fluent communication skills in both English and French.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python scripting and automation.
• Knowledge of support and procedural generation tools.
• Familiarity with visual node-based programming languages.

Additional Information

English proficiency is mandatory due to daily collaboration with international teams and participation in English-only meetings.
