Role Overview and Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and assess experiments in upstream processing with emphasis on microbial fermentation processes on a development scale.
- Promote ongoing enhancements of existing processes for manufacturing biopharmaceutical active substances.
- Utilize appropriate analytical techniques to characterize both processes and products.
- Lead and manage subprojects within the department.
- Proactively support laboratory organization and continuous improvement of daily lab operations.
- Drive scale-up activities and technology transfer processes, transitioning methods to pilot and production scales.
- Conduct thorough and structured literature research in both German and English independently.
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams including downstream processing, analytics, and production to develop comprehensive solutions.
- Prepare reports, presentations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety-related documentation.
Candidate Requirements
- Completed studies in biosciences, biochemistry, or a comparable field.
- Several years of professional experience in upstream processing within pharmaceutical or biotechnological industries.
- Preferably experienced in enzyme or pharmaceutical-relevant plasmid DNA (pDNA) production.
- Confidence and thorough process knowledge in handling bioreactor systems.
- Proven capabilities in process development, optimization, and scale-up procedures.
- Knowledge of GMP environments is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ideally fulfills project leader requirements according to German Genetic Engineering Act (GenTSV).
- Demonstrates a structured, analytical, and independent working style.
- Excellent team spirit and strong communication skills.
- Proficient in IT skills and fluent in spoken and written German and English.
