About the Role

Milken Community School in Los Angeles, California, is seeking a dedicated School Nurse to support student health services aligned with the school's mission rooted in Jewish values. The nurse will play a vital role in fostering the well-being of students by performing health assessments, managing individualized health plans, and acting as a key health resource for the school community.

Primary Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive health evaluations and collect student health histories.
  • Operate autonomously within a clinic environment, handling 35-50 or more student consultations daily without a physician onsite.
  • Perform screenings for vision, hearing, growth, and other health-related issues.
  • Monitor and evaluate students for developmental or medical concerns, identifying abnormal signs and planning next steps.
  • Create and implement personalized health plans for students.
  • Communicate student health conditions to parents, school personnel, and other professionals as needed.
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-ups with families, school staff, or community health entities.
  • Provide ongoing health counseling to students, families, and staff members.
  • Maintain and analyze cumulative student health data.
  • Implement standard school health management procedures and serve as a wellness resource.
  • Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse credential mandatory.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Authorization to administer over-the-counter medications.
  • Current certification in CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Proficient knowledge of professional nursing practices and legal regulations related to health and social issues.
  • Capability to exercise sound professional judgment while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage a health office efficiently.
  • Professional appearance and conduct.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently and flexibly.
  • Competence in emergency triage and initiating emergency procedures.
  • Willingness to support the Director of Operations and other staff with reasonable non-nursing or health and safety requests.
  • Computer proficiency, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications.

Work Schedule

Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional requirements for evening and weekend shifts. All schedules may be subject to change.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000. Milken Community School offers a comprehensive benefits package detailed on their employment webpage.
