About the Role

The Safety Head will serve as the principal authority responsible for overseeing all aspects of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) across multiple manufacturing plants under D Decor. This leadership position requires a seasoned safety professional to independently manage safety frameworks across various units, fostering a zero-harm environment while ensuring strict compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The role reports directly to the management and involves managing plant-level Safety Officers and Supervisors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the comprehensive EHS performance uniformly across all manufacturing units.
  • Develop, execute, and refine safety management systems, including standard operating procedures and risk assessments for each plant.
  • Maintain full adherence to the Factories Act, State Factory Rules, Fire and Life Safety norms, Environment Protection Act, and all other relevant government regulations.
  • Serve as the official Safety Head and Occupational Health & Safety representative liaising with Factory Inspectorate, Fire Department, Pollution Control Board, etc.
  • Lead investigations into incidents and accidents, conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive measures, maintaining an updated record of all accident and near-miss reports with the aim to reduce incident rates annually.
  • Organize regular safety audits, mock drills, fire safety exercises, and emergency preparedness training across all facilities.
  • Promote a robust safety culture through systematic training sessions, safety talks, compliance initiatives, and behavior-based safety programs for employees and contractors.
  • Manage safety compliance for contractors and vendors, including issuance of work permits for hot work, height, confined spaces, electrical isolation, and conduct safety inductions for all new workers.
  • Supervise fire safety mechanisms, hazardous material management, machine safety, electrical safety, and industrial hygiene standards throughout the plants.
  • Prepare and deliver periodic reports on EHS performance, audit results, and improvement strategies to senior leaders.
  • Oversee continuous enhancement of safety systems.
  • Control the safety budget and coordinate deployment of Safety Officers and Supervisors across all locations.
  • Keep the organization updated and compliant with ongoing changes to safety legislation and ensure timely adaptation to new statutory requirements.

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Mandatory Diploma or Degree in Industrial Safety from a government-recognized institute as per the Factories Act.
  • Advanced safety qualifications such as ADIS, NEBOSH, or IOSH certifications are advantageous.
  • Possession of a valid Statutory Safety Officer certification or license required by Maharashtra state.
  • Engineering qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical disciplines with a focus on Industrial Safety are preferred.

Experience & Eligibility

  • Minimum 15 years in Industrial Safety or EHS within manufacturing environments, including at least 5 years in senior leadership across multiple plants.
  • Proven expertise managing safety for multi-plant operations is essential.
  • Experience in large corporate sectors, particularly home furnishings or process manufacturing, is preferred.
  • Strong history of statutory liaison, audits, and effective implementation of safety management standards.
  • Candidates must be physically fit and able to regularly travel to multiple sites for plant floor inspections.
  • Preference for applicants with backgrounds in Armed Forces, Civil Services, Police, or Para-military services combined with recognized safety qualifications due to their discipline and crisis handling skills.

Reporting & Collaboration

Reports directly to company management and collaborates closely with Plant Heads and HR departments across all manufacturing facilities.

Additional Information

  • Age range preferred is between 45 to 50 years.
  • Physical fitness is required to permit active engagement in plant-floor activities including walking, climbing, and inspections.
