Position Overview
We are looking for experienced Medical Coders specialized in Risk Adjustment and Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding. This remote position requires candidates with a minimum of CPC or CCS certification from AHIMA or AAPC, while higher certifications like CRC are considered a strong asset. The role demands a commitment of at least 20 hours per week, preferably full time at 40 hours, with working hours between 6 AM and 6 PM EST.
Responsibilities
- Review and assign accurate codes to medical records and encounters according to Risk Adjustment and HCC standards.
- Apply coding standards consistent with ICD-10-CM, CMS-HCC, and applicable guidelines.
- Verify the completeness and correctness of coded data to maintain integrity.
- Detect and resolve discrepancies between clinical documentation and coded diagnoses.
- Keep informed on updates in coding regulations and guidelines relevant to Risk Adjustment and HCC.
- Observe compliance and HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare providers and team members to clarify documentation and coding issues.
- Engage in ongoing coding education and professional training.
- Prepare and report on coding metrics, accuracy, and issues.
- Support internal and external audits to uphold coding quality and compliance.
- Identify and propose improvements to coding procedures.
- Contribute ideas to enhance documentation and coding accuracy.
Requirements
- Possession of CPC or CCS certification; CRC certification highly favored. CPC-A not accepted.
- 1 to 2 years experience specifically in Risk Adjustment and HCC coding within healthcare.
- Deep understanding of ICD-10-CM and CMS-HCC risk adjustment methods.
- Experience with electronic health records and coding software.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical capabilities, with the ability to work independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective teamwork and collaboration.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and compliance standards.
Additional Information
This role requires adherence to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy. Applicants must have a Windows Professional Edition laptop or desktop meeting the security standards; systems running Windows Home Edition are incompatible. A reliable high-speed internet connection is mandatory.
Working hours: Candidates should be available for shifts between 6 AM and 6 PM EST, Monday through Friday.
Pay rate is set at $22 per hour.
