Role Overview

The Recycler plays a vital role in supporting Talize's sustainability mission by managing the donated inventory with precision and care. This position involves sorting, organizing, weighing, labeling, and transferring donated goods while maintaining efficient backroom operations and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The role requires adaptability in a busy retail environment and a team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

• Unload and categorize donated merchandise accurately into designated bins.
• Measure, tag, and document incoming donations, maintaining proper tracking and order.
• Keep donation bins monitored and transfer items promptly for processing.
• Manage stock replenishment within sub-departments and relocate bins as necessary.
• Dispose safely of unusable or damaged merchandise in accordance with company policies.
• Facilitate baling, compacting, recycling activities, and organize back-stock areas.
• Assist in preparing the store for sales and perform general operational duties.
• Maintain cleanliness and hazard-free conditions in processing and donation areas.
• Operate balers, compactors, and forklifts (with certification) following safety protocols.
• Use proper lifting techniques, wear personal protective equipment, and report safety concerns without delay.
• Support administrative tasks involving inventory weight and data recording.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least one year experience in a warehouse or similar fast-moving environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and compliance.
• Efficient operational skills and basic technical or mechanical aptitude.
• Preferred: forklift, baler, or garbage compactor operation experience.
• Prior exposure to thrift retail settings is an advantage.
• Valid Class G Driver’s License with a minimum of three years driving delivery vans is a plus.

Physical and Work Environment

• Requires frequent movement including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and twisting during shifts.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver rolling containers up to 500 pounds.
• Exposure to dust, dirt, insects, sometimes rodents, and variable temperature conditions.
• Work setting may be noisy and requires availability for day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
• Regular interaction with customers and the general public is expected.

Work Schedule

This position demands flexible availability including weekends, holidays, and evening closing shifts.
