CWILL is a specialized post-purchase and customer retention platform designed specifically for Shopify retailers. Its goal is to minimize customer service inquiries, recapture revenue lost through returns, and transform single-time purchasers into recurring customers using purpose-built tools that engage customers after their purchase.

Role Overview

The position is part of CWILL's drive to create innovative SaaS solutions for Shopify businesses, including artificial intelligence-based customer support and SEO enhancement tools. The R&D Management Trainee program offers new engineers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience working within product teams, producing tangible output from the start with guidance from experienced engineers. Trainees will gradually earn the capacity to independently manage software modules and technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in full-stack feature development focusing mostly on backend aspects such as API creation, business logic, data handling, and third-party system integrations.
• Engage in designing technical solutions, coding, performing integration testing, and deploying software components.
• Ensure the delivered features meet quality standards and adhere to specifications.
• Support troubleshooting by investigating live system bugs, performing root cause analysis, and resolving issues using diagnostic tools like logging and database queries.
• Contribute to enhancements aimed at improving system stability, speed, and maintainability of the codebase.
• Collaborate with peers following engineering best practices including code reviews, documentation, and test-driven development.
• Maintain transparent communication about work progress, potential risks, and obstacles.
• Participate in retrospectives to refine coding quality and technical decision-making skills and progressively assume more responsibility within the team.

Candidate Requirements

• Recent completion (within 1-2 years) of a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a US university.
• Competent in at least one backend programming language such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, or PHP.
• Familiar with web basics including HTTP, RESTful API development, integration between frontend and backend, as well as relational databases.
• Solid foundational knowledge of SQL, preferably with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Ability to comprehend technical documentation, systematically troubleshoot problems, and manage tasks from start to finish.
• Dependable and communicative, able to identify issues early and follow through on responsibilities.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Exposure to frameworks and technologies such as React, Node.js, Next.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
• Experience in AI or large language model projects covering prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, chatbots, or content automation.
• Background in Shopify app development, store technology integrations, SEO tooling, or SaaS products.
• Internship or work experience within technology or SaaS environments, involvement in open source projects, or a portfolio showcasing personal projects.
• Knowledge of Docker containerization, continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines, or cloud platforms (AWS, Aliyun, etc.).
• An active GitHub account with consistent activity.
• Participation in competitive programming events such as ACM or LanQiao Cup.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code.
• Ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese is considered an asset.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting salary ranges from 60,000 to 80,000 USD annually, negotiable based on experience.
