Job Summary
The Rations Clerk position involves overseeing the process of ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, and keeping inventory records of government-supplied food subsistence. This role requires precise recordkeeping and competence in using automated inventory management systems.
Work Location and Facilities
This role will be performed at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, specifically within buildings 19225, 12902, 13102, 13302, and 110.
Employment Details
Positions are available as full-time or part-time, contingent on the facility schedules and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and submit orders for food and other subsistence supplies.
- Manage inventory and accountability records through AFMIS or similar systems.
- Accept deliveries, verifying quantity, condition, temperature, and accompanying paperwork.
- Identify and report shortages, excess items, damaged goods, or unauthorized substitutions.
- Ensure proper dating, labeling, storage, and rotation of food items.
- Control access to refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas.
- Distribute food items to authorized kitchen staff.
- Conduct physical stock counts and reconcile with inventory system data.
- Monitor transfers, returns, turn-ins, leftover items, and condemned food supplies.
- Maintain logs of refrigerator and freezer temperatures.
- Collaborate with vendors, kitchen staff, management, and installation officials.
- Implement manual recordkeeping procedures during system outages.
- Keep orderly records necessary for inspections and audits.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in inventory, warehouse operations, food service supply, receiving, or ration accountability.
- Proficiency with computers and accurate data entry capabilities.
- Familiarity with AFMIS or equivalent inventory management software is a plus.
- Basic mathematical skills for inventory reconciliation.
- Capability to inspect and physically move food cases and supplies.
- Understanding of proper food storage and stock rotation methods.
- Ability to obtain installation access clearance and system permissions.
