Role Overview
The Project Manager position is focused on directing advanced technical, financial, and regulatory planning processes for large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developments from inception through project readiness. This role demands the integration of intricate engineering principles, economic evaluation, and project leadership to refine scope, mitigate risks, and enhance financial viability across multifaceted infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive planning and optimization efforts, fusing engineering design, financial modeling, procurement strategies, and regulatory compliance to inform executive investment decisions for utility-scale BESS projects.
- Oversee coordination among diverse project development teams across multiple disciplines to align resources with critical project milestones and timelines.
- Manage engagements with environmental, regulatory, cultural, land acquisition, interconnection, and other relevant factors to ensure holistic project advancement.
- Continuously refine technical scope and project variables to elevate both operational and financial outcomes.
- Assist origination and development teams during Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Generator Interconnection Agreement (GIA) negotiations, alongside jurisdictional adherence.
- Coordinate engineering, cost estimation, and procurement functions to underpin the creation of sound financial models and detailed project designs.
- Utilize market intelligence to validate and strengthen financial modeling.
- Present and defend financial models to business units, securing necessary executive budget authorizations.
- Source, negotiate, and formalize commercial contracts for essential services, such as geotechnical analysis, surveying, engineering, and engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) or procurement-construction (PC) services.
- Advocate for the company's interests throughout project assignments, leveraging various software tools to manage project data and deliver critical performance metrics.
Qualifications and Desired Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, management, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of five years’ project management experience, with a strong emphasis on engineering or economic aspects.
- Proficiency with advanced Excel functions; exceptional project management, communication, financial analysis, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with renewable energy projects is advantageous, particularly involving electricity markets, renewables, and battery technology.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and experience with Six Sigma methodologies are strongly preferred.
Location and Travel
- Position based in Juno Beach, Florida.
- Periodic travel may be necessary for project site visits and participation in local public hearings supporting development efforts.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation for this role is set within a range determined by factors such as education, credentials, experience, skills, performance, union agreements, and business requirements, with the possibility of pay adjustments. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA); Flexible Spending Account (FSA); 401(k) plan; and life, disability, and accidental death & dismemberment insurance for eligible employees. Salaried employees receive paid time off, whereas hourly personnel are not eligible for paid leave except as required by law. Employees working under Service Contract Act projects are eligible for paid sick leave. Bonuses, incentives, or commissions are not applicable to this role.
